Customize my chat widget

Note: For now, GoDaddy Conversations is available in English-language markets.

Customize your chat widget to reflect your brand and gain your customers’ confidence when they chat with you on your website.

If you have a Websites + Marketing site, you have an inbuilt chat widget that you can enable or disable. You can also generate a chat widget script to use on any website that supports custom code.

  1. In a web browser, go to your GoDaddy product page.
  2. If you have the standalone version of Conversations:
    1. Scroll down and tap Conversations Unified Inbox.
    2. Tap your plan.
    3. At the bottom of the screen, tap Settings.
  3. If you have a Websites + Marketing plan:
    1. Scroll down and tap Websites + Marketing.
    2. Tap your website.
    3. In the upper-left corner, tap More hamburger menu Menu
    4. Expand Conversations, and then tap Settings.
  4. When you're done customizing, tap Save changes, and then publish your website.
  1. Go to your GoDaddy product page.
  2. Scroll down, expand Websites + Marketing and select Manage next to your website.
  3. Select Edit Website or Edit Site to open your website builder.
  4. Under SHORTCUTS, select Chat. You’ll see options for customizing your chat widget.
  5. When you're done customizing, tap Save changes, and then publish your website.

Enable or disable the chat widget

This option is available for the default chat widget that comes with your Websites + Marketing site. You won’t see it if you’re editing a custom chat widget.

Switch the Enable Chat Widget toggle on or off to show or hide the chat widget on your website.

Change the name of the widget's associated website

This option won't show if you're customizing the default chat widget associated with your Websites + Marketing site. It's only for widgets you've created to use on any website that supports custom code.

The name you give your widget is not shown to your customers, but helps you identify the widget. It’s a good idea to name it according to the website where you’ll be using it.

Edit your connected email inbox

Under Connected Email Inbox, you can change the email that receives notifications when customers send you a message via chat.

If you have a paid Websites + Marketing plan, we create a customer support email address for you. It’s a good idea to replace this with your Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy email address or your connected Gmail address, or you can create a new email address here.

Change the greeting and add conversation starters

Under Greeting Message, edit the chat message your customers see 10 seconds after they’ve landed on your website. This makes them aware there’s a chatbot ready to help, and invites them to start a conversation.

You can provide some frequently asked questions for customers to choose from. If you’re stuck for ideas, AI can analyze your website’s content and suggest relevant conversation starters.

You also have the option to change the text that allows customers to dismiss the chat if they prefer not to engage.

Change the chat color and avatar

Under Chat Appearance you’ll be able to update the featured color of your chat widget and upload an avatar image or logo that represents your brand.

Change the confirmation message

When a customer sends you a message through chat, they'll get a confirmation message on their screen to let them know you’ve received it. You can change the text of this message in the Confirmation Message box.

Enable or disable chatbots

Under Chatbots, you can enable or disable chatbots for your chat widget and see which chatbots are available. Select Chatbot Settings to switch individual chatbots on or off. Available bots include the Hello bot, Order bot, Response Assistant bot, Shopping Assistant bot and Appointment Assistant bot.

Note: The chatbot settings you select apply to all the chat widgets in your account, not individual chat widgets.

Set your availability hours

By default, your availability hours are set to the times when you respond on average. You can, however, specify the days and times when you’re available to chat. Under Chat Availability you’ll see your current availability hours. Select Chat Availability Settings to change them.

Note: Availability hours apply to all the chat widgets in your account, not individual chat widgets.

Change the name in your chat widget

Changing the name that appears in your chat widget will also change your website name and, if you do not have a domain name linked to your website, the GoDaddy website link we provide. Follow the steps to change your site name.
