Why connect my domain?
Connecting your domain to Online Pay Links and invoices gives you a customizable and professional “pay.” subdomain to share with customers. A professional-looking payment form builds customer trust—which is important when you’re processing transactions. The URL includes your domain, so it’s easy for your customers to find.
For example, let’s say you own mycoolnewbusiness.com and you connect it as your pay link domain. You can now use pay.mycoolnewbusiness.com to collect money from your customers. You can create and share links for specific payment amounts or send out a standard webform that lets customers enter the amount they want to pay.
Also, if you subscribe to the Invoicing and Pay Links Plus plan, any invoices you create will also automatically direct your customers to the connected domain. How do I use my new subdomain?
This is the process in a nutshell:
- Set up GoDaddy Payments and link your bank account.
- Connect your domain. The same connected domain will apply to both invoices (premium plan required) and pay links.
- Create and share an invoice or pay link with your customers.
- Your customers use the link or QR code to open a webform where they can submit payment.
- Payments usually transfer into your bank account at the close of the next business day.
Do I need to sign up for GoDaddy Payments?
Most GoDaddy accounts come with GoDaddy Payments enabled, so you can connect your domain and create pay links or invoices right away. However, you’ll need to complete the GoDaddy Payments setup process and link your bank account to receive funds from your customers. Once you’re all set up, the funds will be deposited directly into your bank account.
Can I connect to an external domain?
This feature is currently only available for domains purchased through GoDaddy. Once you’ve set up GoDaddy Payments, you can connect to any domain that you’ve purchased through GoDaddy.
How do I format the URL for an Online Pay Link?
Once you’ve connected to a domain, the URLs for your Online Pay Links will automatically begin with the “pay.” subdomain name. When creating a pay link, customize the specific path to append to the end of the URL. (For example: pay.mycoolnewbusiness.com/path_name.)
Additionally, you can select a pay link to be the default for your subdomain. This is the pay link that customers will see when they go to your subdomain, with nothing extra added to the end of the URL. To set a default pay link for your subdomain, locate the link in your list of Online Pay Links, select Menu options, then select Set as Default Link.
Once you’ve created an Online Pay Link, view and edit the URL at any time under Quick Actions in Online Pay Links.
Can I change the connected domain?
Yes. You can disconnect a domain at any time by selecting Disconnect next to the domain in your pay links or invoice settings. You’re then free to connect a new domain—or reconnect the same domain later. Keep in mind that pay links and invoices connected to the subdomain will no longer work if the domain is disconnected.
Can I link multiple domains?
You can link one domain at a time to your GoDaddy Payments account. You can change the domain whenever you’d like to by disconnecting it and connecting a different domain. However, after the domain is disconnected, pay links and invoices connected to the subdomain will no longer work.
How many pay links and invoices can I create for a domain?
You can create as many as you want to—there’s no limit.
What happens to pay links and invoices I’ve already created?
The URLs for existing pay links and invoices that you created before linking a domain will automatically update to include the new subdomain, so you can share them with the subdomain moving forward. The original generic URLs will also still work, so your customers can still use links that you’ve shared in the past.
