About Avalara AvaTax and GoDaddy partnership for your taxes

GoDaddy and Avalara have partnered together to help you with sales tax collection, reporting and remittance. AvaTax is included as part of Websites + Marketing Commerce Plus (compare plans and pricing ). Select one of the questions below to jump to that question.

What does Avalara AvaTax do?

Avalara AvaTax helps you present an accurate tax amount to your customers when they check out on your online store. The tax is calculated from accurate and up-to-date tax rates for assigned product-specific tax codes and more than 12,000 jurisdictions.

In addition to adding accurate sales taxes when your customers check out, AvaTax helps you create accurate reports of your business’s taxes. In addition, you may want to use Avalara’s additional services to report and remit taxes. Avalara may charge a fee for these services.

How much does it cost?

You get access to AvaTax advanced sales tax calculations included as part of your Websites + Marketing plan for no extra charge.

How does Avalara know what taxes I need to collect?

When you set up AvaTax, you’ll enter your nexus details like your business locations, employee locations, shipping locations, customer locations and product categories.

Avalara uses that information along with its database of thousands of tax codes to calculate the appropriate tax amount needed to comply with state-specific tax compliancy rules.

I already have an Avalara account. Can I connect to it?

Yes. If you have an Avalara account, you can connect to it and start using AvaTax for tax determination on your online store. If you have multiple companies configured within AvaTax, you can choose the right company to record your Websites + Marketing online store transactions.

I don't have an Avalara account. How do I create one?

Sign up for a new Avalara account from your Websites + Marketing online store. In your Dashboard, go to Commerce and under General select Sales Tax. From there you can connect and create a new account.

After signing up for the new account, configure the nexus and other details needed to start using AvaTax for tax determination purposes on your online store. There are no additional verification steps involved.

Can I use the same Avalara account for multiple Websites + Marketing sites?

Yes. You can use the same Avalara account to connect to more than one Websites + Marketing online store.

If you have multiple companies configured within AvaTax, you can choose the right company to record transactions from each of your Websites + Marketing online store transactions.

Can I collect different tax rates for different types of products through Avalara?

AvaTax provides product-specific tax codes for many product categories. Assign specific product tax codes to your catalog product within Websites + Marketing online store. AvaTax can accurately calculate the correct tax during checkout for your location, the customer’s location and the product type.

How can I make changes after I set up tax with Avalara?

From your Websites + Marketing Dashboard, go to Commerce and under General select Sales Tax. From there you can update your nexus, business information, product categories and other settings. Your Websites + Marketing online store will use the updated details automatically.

You may change from automatic collection back to using manual tax collection, but all new transactions after you change to manual tax collection will not be recorded with Avalara.

How can I generate the required sales tax reports?

Avalara provides reports around transactions, tax returns and tax exemptions. These are accessible free of charge on your Avalara AvaTax dashboard. These generated reports can be used for tax filing and remittance.
