Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy Help

Troubleshoot missing email after moving to Microsoft 365

After you transition to Microsoft 365, check that your messages moved correctly. The transition can only move messages that are stored on the Microsoft 365 servers. This means if you use an email client and store mail locally, you might see some messages missing in your Exchange account with Microsoft 365.

Before continuing, check if you have a folder called In-Place Archive in Microsoft Outlook or Outlook on the web. Your missing content may be there.

Required: You can only complete the following steps if your current email provider accounts are still active and have not been canceled or expired.

I check my email in a client

If you use an email client (like Outlook for Windows or Mail for Mac), check that you're receiving mail in Outlook on the web.

  1. Sign in to Outlook on the web. Use your Microsoft 365 email address and password.
  2. Check if your folders are listed in the left column and if you see your messages.
    • If folders/messages are missing in Outlook on the web, but you see them in your client, make backups and import them to your Exchange account.
    • If you see your folders/messages in Outlook on the web, but they're missing in your client, you might need to subscribe to your folders (this is no logner supported in Outlook for Windows or Mac).
    • If folders/messages are missing in both Outlook on the web and your client, or you're not receiving mail, contact a GoDaddy Guide for help.

I check my email in my previous email provider’s webmail

If you use your previous email provider's webmail, compare it to your Microsoft 365 webmail to confirm you're receiving mail.

  1. Sign in to Outlook on the web. Use your Microsoft 365 email address and password.
  2. In another window or tab, sign in to your previous email provider’s webmail.
  3. Compare your folders and their messages in your previous provider’s webmail and Outlook on the web.
    • If folders/messages are missing in Outlook on the web, but you see them in previous webmail, open your Deleted Items folder and select Recover items deleted from this folder. Select the messages, and then Restore to return them to their default location in Outlook on the web.
    • If folders/messages are missing in both Outlook on the web and previous webmail, you don't see messages in your Deleted Items folder, or you're not receiving mail, contact a GoDaddy Guide for help.
