What is it?
Strong passwords ensure that the only people with access to your account are you and the people you choose.
Two-step verification (2SV) requires an extra step to prove your identity when you sign in. After you enter your password, you have to prove that you have access to a separate account like your email or a physical device like your phone. Some people may refer to this as multifactor authentication (MFA) or two-factor authentication (2FA).
Why do I need it?
Your GoDaddy account is very valuable. It can have your customer’s personal information, domains that can be sold or transferred, and hosting that can be configured for illegal activities. On the dark web, your GoDaddy account is worth about 100x your Facebook account.
Your password is the first and most important line of defense. Two-step verification provides an additional layer of security that is very hard to penetrate. Someone might get their hands on your secure password, but what are the chances of someone getting your secure password and access to your phone or email account?

Set up strong passwords
Get a password manager. Remembering a different strong password for everything you sign into is not something most of us are capable of doing. Password managers allow you to store, generate, and manage passwords for all your accounts. They can also let you know when it’s time to change a password and help you through the process.
You will still need a password to access the password manager. Make sure it’s a strong one! To be a strong password, you need to:
- Never use the same password for multiple accounts.
- Don’t use personally identifiable terms.
- Avoid using common words or phrases.
- Use different types of characters.
- Make it long.
- Consider spelling things wrong.
- Change your passwords regularly.
- Never save or share passwords.
