Switching to the root user on my Linux server
Some Linux server changes, like installing applications or changing configuration files, requires root or admin access. You can accomplish this by becoming the substitute user, super user or switch user.
Warning: We recommend being careful when using root access because it's possible to make unwanted changes that GoDaddy cannot help you fix (see our Statement of Support).
- If you haven't already, enable root/admin access for your server
- Connect via SSH to your server
- Run the command:
sudo su -
- Enter your SSH password.
