Outlook error: Information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed
When using Outlook, you might get the error message, “Information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed or changed by others. However, there is a problem with the site’s security certificate.”
There are a few reasons you might see this error, like an outdated version of Outlook, a corrupt Outlook profile, or if you're using Linux Hosting and Microsoft 365 email together. Follow our troubleshooting steps to get this fixed.
Check if you have the latest version of Outlook
- Check what version of Outlook is installed on your desktop.
- If you have an older version of Outlook, uninstall the outdated version. Learn from Microsoft how to uninstall Office on a PC or how to uninstall Office on a Mac.
- Install the latest version of Outlook through your Email & Office Dashboard.
Change your Linux Hosting email routing
If you’re using Linux Hosting with a different email provider, like Microsoft 365, you need to update your cPanel email routing to “Remote Mail Exchanger” (step 6 in the article).
Create a new profile in Outlook
- Make sure Outlook's closed.
- Follow the instructions in this Microsoft article under Create a new profile.
- To use the new profile when opening Outlook, follow the instructions under either Configure Outlook to always use the same profile or Configure Outlook to prompt you to choose a profile when started.
