Add categories to my WordPress site
If you have a blog on your WordPress site, you can organize your posts in different categories. That way, it will be easier for your readers to find all posts that cover certain topics. Here's how to add categories to your WordPress blog.
- Sign in to WordPress.
- On the left side menu, select Posts > Categories.
- Under Add new category, enter the category's name, slug (editable part of the URL), and description to the corresponding fields.
- Optional: If you want the new category to be a subcategory of a larger category, select the main category from the Select parent category menu.
Note: You'll have to add the parent category first for it to appear on the Select parent category menu. For example, for a travel blog, you can add continent names first as parent categories and then countries as child categories.
- Optional: If you want the new category to be a subcategory of a larger category, select the main category from the Select parent category menu.
- Select the Add new category button.
Repeat these steps every time you want to add a new category to your blog.
